Cities are the cradle of a wide range of cultural, social, and technological innovations that are at the heart of modern economic growth and development. Recent microeconomic and econometric models of urban economics show why and how cities play such a major role in the process of economic development. The purpose of the talk is to provide a non-technical overview of what has been accomplished in urban economics.
